I’ve been noticing that many top fantasy hitters have struggled to return value, while lower-ranked breakouts are not just performing well, they’re some of the most valuable players in fantasy (eg, Raleigh, PCA, Buxton, Busch). Nine of the top 30 ranked players were taken post-100 in ADP. At certain positions it’s even more dramatic: 10 of the 22 top first basemen were drafted at 200+ ADP (and two more were drafted as catchers).
Ben Tidd (@BreakingBen_T) did a thorough, in-depth analysis of this phenomenon on the Bubba & The Bloom Patreon. I highly recommend the Patreon generally; there are innumerable analytical tools, special pods, and a robust Discord community. Here’s the Tidd article: https://www.patreon.com/posts/134073561?utm_campaign=postshare_fan
This is the second year in a row where the values don’t track with ADP. I don’t have an overarching takeaway on this (yet) for next season.
In the meantime, over on Rotoballer I wrote about four underperforming hitters to buy back or trade for in the second half, including Gunnar Henderson and Jake Burger:
